If you are looking to begin a career, change your career, or gain experience in your field of study, internships are a good choice for several reasons that include the following:
· Internships offer a quick and efficient way to gain work experience and develop job skills.
Although you may be mentally prepared to begin your career at the bottom of an organization, you do not even meet the prerequisites for the beginning level! Many students have said, “I know that I must start at the beginning to develop job skills and attain real work experience. However, if no one will hire me with my current qualifications, how can I obtain those skills and experiences?” Good question.
The truth is that many entry-level positions require skills and experiences that schools and part-time jobs will not provide. You may understand an office computer, have some customer service experience, or even have edited the college newspaper or organized a charity event BUT you still do not have the relevant skills or job experience that many managers require.

In truth, the best internship may tell you what you DON’T want to do for the next ten or twenty years of your life. Therefore, internships offer a low-cost opportunity to experience a career field to see if it is the right one for you.
· Internships offer real opportunities to do career networking and can significantly increase your chances of receiving a good full-time position.

Studies show fewer than 20% of job placements occur through traditional application methods such as newspaper, advertisements, employment agencies, and career fairs.
